Alien Journeys

Alien Journeys, the most unusual of The Raylius Experiment albums, features unfamiliar soundscapes and a mysterious aura that evoke images of alien life. Most of the original recordings date back to the same sessions that yielded the song “Cosmic Awakening” from Ever Expanding Inner Universe. “Venusian Sunset” is an alternate version of the song which first appeared on Daydreams, in 1986. The entire album has been remixed and remastered for this 2018 version.

“Venusian Sunset” was the first piece in which Raylius structured the music with “long tones” which mostly play continuously throughout the entire song but modulate in volume over time to produce its unfolding harmonic and timbral changes. Inspired by the music of Steve Roach, and attuned to the dynamic structure of the human breath while in a state of relaxation, “Venusian Sunset” draws the listener in to the flowing stream of tones, and helps quell the analytical mind from trying to predict what will happen next.
